Caputo to be Composer-in-Residence at 2020 Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music; performance of “Liminal” for orchestra

Invited as a Composer-in-Residence for the upcoming 2020 Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music, Caputo’s Liminal will be performed by the Cabrillo Festival Orchestra under the direction of conductor and musical director Cristian Măcelaru.

Liminal will be featured on the Saturday, August 8th program titled “Susan B.”, a concert that will additionally feature works by Stacy Garrop, Paola Prestini, and the late Christopher Rouse.

This 58th Season of the renowned Cabrillo Festival will run from July 26th to August 9th, 2020. Featured composers in residence include Mason Bates, Dan Caputo, Stacy Garrop, John Harbison, Jake Heggie, Pierre Jalbert, Sarah Kirkland Snider, Paola Prestini, Kevin Puts, Andrea Reinkemeyer, Iván Enrique Rodríguez, Sean Shepherd, and Gregory Smith. Guest Artists will include Katherine Needleman (oboe); Benjamin Beilman (violin); Sasha Cooke (mezzo-soprano); Gregory Smith (narrator); Quartet San Francisco; Lara Downes (piano); and Stewart Goodyear (piano).

“Memoryscapes” world premiere with the USC Thornton Edge on 3/3/20

Memoryscapes for sinfonietta and electronics will receive its world premiere on March 3rd, 2020 by the USC Thornton Edge ensemble conducted by Donald Crockett. The sprawling 25-minute work transforms key elements from four significant works from the past 500 years of Western art music to create immersive sonic landscapes. The concert will also feature the premiere of a reduced-scoring version of Kalevi Aho’s Clarinet Concerto performed by clarinetist Yasmina Spiegelberg.

“out of nothing” to be performed on Piano Spheres concert featuring Vicki Ray

out of nothing will be performed by PLR, a piano trio comprised of Vicki Ray, Alyssa Park, and Tim Loo on Saturday, September 28th, 2019 at the Boston Court in Pasadena, CA. The concert, put on by Piano Spheres, further features the music of George Crumb, Ian Dicke, and Somei Satoh.

“Liminal” to be performed by the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra as part of the 2019 NJSO Cone Composition Institute

Caputo’s Liminal will be performed by the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra under conductor Cristian Măcelaru as part of the 2019 NJSO Edward T. Cone Composition Institute. The Institute, directed by Steven Mackey, will include rehearsals, professional workshops, and a performance on July 20th in Princeton’s Richardson Auditorium. 2019 HEAR NOW Music Festival to feature “out of nothing” for piano trio

Caputo’s out of nothing (2016) for piano trio will be performed on Saturday, May 4th, 2019 as part of the Hear Now Music Festival at the First Lutheran Church of Venice. Entering its ninth year, the Hear Now Music Festival is an annual festival of works by Los Angeles-based composers.
